So, I've finally gotten around to starting to list the contents of my mix tapes, in the hopes that eventually I can get all of the songs as MP3s and recreate them as CDs. It's slow going. There are very few where I wrote down the artists, and in some cases I don't even know the correct titles. Then there's the tape which was a memory/nostalgia tape, where all I wrote down was the first name of the person the song reminded me of. That one I won't be able to decode without listening to it.

On the other hand, looking at it and trying to remember made me want to try to do the same thing for college. I started a list of songs that remind me of specific people or groups or situations. In no particular order:

Sunglasses at Night
Africa
Hooked on a Feeling
TubThumping
This Is The Time
Macarena
What A Good Boy
something from Grease
Masochism Tango
any pubsong
Party Generation
Main Street Electrical Parade
something Indigo Girls

I'm taking suggestions, if anyone who was in college with me can think of some obvious ones I left out. (I'll also identify my associations, if anyone cares.)

Meanwhile, I played around on several of the reunion sites today. I keep hoping some information will show up somewhere about my high school reunion. I do know who the contact is, so if I don't hear anything, eventually I'll drop her a message. I noticed while ego-googling that there's someone with my name living in my hometown. I hope she's not getting my mail!

I'm not that easy to find online if you don't already know where to look. I don't have any web presence under my own name other than the telephone listing, and there are at least two other people with the same name in New Jersey alone. In fact, this journal is really my only web presence. I use the username everywhere, so I can be located by anyone who knows the name - but since Colla the centaur wasn't created until 97-98, anyone I knew before college wouldn't have any luck. Not that I think anyone's likely to be looking, but you never know.

ETA: And then there's the tape that I did write the titles on, and I still have no idea what half the songs are. And, you know, I still love Save the Best For Last, but did it really have to go on every mix tape?

For Indigo Girls, it would be Least Complicated (not sure about the title), at least for me.

It is What a Good Boy.

For Indigo Girls. Power of Two.

I don't remember if you have and MeatLoaf but I recommend either Two out of Three, Paradise by the Dashboard Light, or I'd Do anything for Love. Course knowing you Bat out of Hell might be appropriate.

Dances in high school, your wedding and others since, and in fact a number of car trips with oidhche - but nothing that's really college-specific.

And, really, a mix of songs I associate with Oid would have to be a multi-disc collection.

As Daern becomes annoying
Perhaps even a Boxed Set.

(For those of you who are not BNL fans that was a clever reference to one of their songs... Okay I thought it was clever... I'm going to go away now.)

You be right, I read too fast. Though that particular song is not in my "memory" train.

What a Good Boy should be in everyones memory train... along with Who Needs Sleep, and Thanks that was fun. Oh wait... the last is only in my memory train. (The train for those of you who are wondering is Old Style Red Line, with a caboose on the end.)

Who Needs Sleep is much more an item.
