Why do I persist in trying to organize events? Even small ones are fraught with complication...

Last weekend, I had two completely independent conversations about wanting to go to the zoo. So I decided I wanted to go, and get a few people to go with me. Then I had to worry about everybody's schedules. Finally, I've just given up and decided to go two weeks in a row so I can go with everyone.

You know who never got back to me about it? The two people I had the conversations with last weekend...

Don’t try to organize them that way. Say that you want to go. Find out when some of the people you want to go can go. Make a date for the day you awn tto go and let people know about it. You don’t need to duplicate your trip twice to fit around everybody's schedule. If they can’t work around your schedule then oh well, they can’t go. They can go with you on some other trip. And maybe you can work on a trip next time specifically with the people you missed out, but it can be soem other trip.

Although, if it’s a neat-o trip that they may very well want to do, plan a few weeks in advance so people have time to make plans. But still, if not everybody can make it, that's what happens. Besides, if you get a smaller group and get to hang out more with the people on the trip.

Well, that's basically what I was doing. I picked a day, and said I'd go again in the spring for anyone who couldn't make it.

But the most enthusiastic person (and about the only one with stronger force of personality than me) is not free on that day. And only that day. Everybody else is not nearly so gung-ho.

Besides, I like the zoo. And since I paid for a year's membership last night, I can go, take a guest, and get free parking, as often as I like. And it really comes down to nothing more than an excuse to hang out with friends somewhere that's NOT one of two living rooms.

Nope.

Nor did I invite you to the zoo... you want to go to the Philadelphia Zoo?

Anybody else want to go to the zoo?

Nope, sorry. Anyone who wants to go this weekend needs to get themselves to Pennsylvania. Anyone who wants to go next weekend needs to email me this coming week and either be in NJ or PA or get themselves to Philly all on their own.

Anyone who wants to go some unspecified future weekend, let me know, but I'm still not picking you up in MA.... *grin*
