PSA: Ice

Public Service Announcement for anyone in the Northeast who is as klutzy or oblivious as I am: Snow followed by melting is usually then followed by ice, making apparently flat surfaces treacherous. Watch your step.

An post like this is followed by concern...

I went outside to put out the garbage and recycling. Didn't think about the fact that it had gotten colder. Didn't even make it down a step; my feet slid out from under me on the top step. Crash (recycling), thud (me), bump, bump, bump down three steps until my feet reached the sidewalk.

My reaction was OW! and the fight-or-flight reflex triggered, so I was already up and moving by the time it occurred to me I should be concerned about whether I'd done any serious damage. I fell backwards, so I landed on my ass and my right arm. If I'd fallen forward, I probably would have spent the night in the emergency room. When the adrenalin wore off, pain and shock wore on, and it did hurt enough that I was concerned about my arm, but nothing's broken.

End result: a pain in the ass. *grin* Seriously, I have significant bruising of the left buttock and the right forearm. The arm is distracting, because I'm used to having it on the desk when I'm using the mouse. The other one is more distracting, since I'm sitting on it.

This morning, I can almost laugh at it. Last night, I was mostly whimpering.

And, this is oversharing but I feel comfortable oversharing to you: I have been able to see the bruise on my arm. It's nasty, but not unusual. My mirror at home is positioned wrong for me to be able to see my backside, though. I just managed to take a look at it in a mirror in the women's room here. Oh My God. My whole butt-cheek is this kind of creepy red color. No wonder it hurts, the whole thing is bruised.
