Off and on, since Thursday, I've been helping oidhche with the last bits of packing and moving and cleaning. I'm not sure how much actual assistance I've really been, aside from a couple of carloads of stuff moved. On the other hand, my needs for food made him stop and feed himself as well, and I've encouraged him to not abuse his back more than absolutely necessary, and to sleep, and other things like that. And I know from my own experience that just having someone else present makes it less of an ordeal. So, with luck at least I've been assisting with health and morale.
It hasn't been more than 2-3 hours on any given day, but it feels kind of like that's been what I spent my whole weekend doing. Thus, the other things I've also been doing seem like bonus accomplishments.
daeron had plans in the area both Friday and Saturday evenings, and needed a place to stay in between, so I invited him to stay with me - before I had worked out when I would be helping oidhche, of course. He had to let himself into my apartment Friday night, since I didn't get home until about 11:15. Saturday morning, he was actually bored enough to come with me to get an oil change! I disappeared for a couple of hours mid-afternoon, but otherwise we did spend a while hanging out. I felt like I was being a really bad host, though.
After he left, I spent a truly thrilling and exciting Saturday evening with my laundry. There's a lot I want to try to get done around the apartment before next weekend, and while I didn't get as much done as I hoped, I did at least make some progress.
Sunday morning, my nose pad fell out of my glasses. This happens about once a year. It's a shame they aren't better quality. So, I headed up to Costco, where they replace them for free. That's almost worth the membership right there, not in absolute numbers, but in the knowledge that I can get it fixed right away. Then, after more packing and moving stuff, I had dinner at Hooters with oidhche and caniswolfie and M, and heard a great deal about the bachelor party, which had been the night before.
