It's August, which for me is the quiet slow time of year. Half of my friends are in academia, and for them August is the busy time. This leaves me with more time to myself. My co-workers also tend to take vacation in late July and early August, so someone's usually away on any given day.

August is also a big month for birthdays. Happy birthday to everyone who has a birthday this month. I promise I am not forgetting you and your special day, even if I do not/did not mention it. It's just that it's likely I've forgotten what day today is. My own is mid-week this year, but Ginny's going to be on vacation, so with any luck I can manage to skip all the nonsense we usually have to go through at work. [ETA: Serves me right for mentioning it - they surprised me with cake this afternoon, after I wrote that but before I got it posted.]

I stuck my thumb right through my shirt while I was putting it on yesterday morning. I'm used to doing that with stockings, but not with shirts. One more for the rag bin.

My primary Puzzle Pirate is getting quite good at all the various tasks. Now if only I could get over the not-talking-to-strangers thing, I might be able to make a name for myself. That was always my problem when I used to MUD, as well - I could do the solo-play stuff well, and as far as it would take me, but talking to strangers is a Big Scary that makes me log off. Reason #512 that Internet dating is unlikely to work for me.

It's been less hot and less humid for the last couple of days. I certainly appreciate that. Summer is really not my best time. (Some might say I don't have a best time, to which I can only say: Thbbbt!) I always look forward to fall.

It is so much more fun to be obsessing over how best to clean mouse pee off My Little Ponies instead of what the surgeon will say tomorrow.
