Backing up a few paragraphs: as usual, I came home from visiting a small child with a nasty cold. I felt unwell all day Monday, but hoped I would get over it. Tuesday and Wednesday I was out sick. Today I went back, not quite better but close enough. Around 11:00, it was like someone flipped a switch, and suddenly I was well but with the lingering Cough of Doom. I'm still hoping to knock out said cough without a doctor's visit, but am rather suspecting I'll be hitting the clinic after work tomorrow to see if I can get a prescription for cough syrup.
At any rate, getting out of the house and interacting with other people was very good indeed. One of my favorite clients dropped in today. I talk to her several times a year, but I guess she hadn't been to the office in a while, because she told me how great I look having lost the weight, and wanted to know how I did it. That's my favorite kind of compliment. I may never be able to banish the Ugly Fat Chick from my self-image, but it's still nice to hear that she's not who everyone else is seeing.
And now there's just one more day left until the weekend. All kinds of excitement in store for me: haircut, gaming and so on. I'm looking forward to it.
Because I'm allergic to one or both of the major ingredients of the OTC stuff. So the only thing I can take is the heavy-duty prescription cough syrup with codeine in it. Fortunately, that will knock out just about any cough. Unfortunately, it has to get pretty bad before they'll give it to me. Still more unfortunately, I have a predilection for respiratory illnesses, which is equal parts genetics, legacy of a form of pneumonia I had in high school, and the fact that I can't do anything about it except eat cough drops like candy.
