I made myself a chart with some easy exercises on it. If I do everything on the chart, I get a gold star. Or at least a penguin; I don't think I have any gold stars but I know I have a lot of penguin stickers.

I have yet to earn my penguin for any given day. True, I only started this on Friday, but we're talking 5 sit-ups, 5 leg lifts, that kind of thing. The goal here is to establish a habit while it's easy, then make it harder.

It's kind of sad how easily I get tired, winded, overheated. But then, that's the reason I need to do this. I'm not even in good enough shape to try Curves right now - a half hour workout, even one designed for fat women, would probably kill me.

However, the little bit of exercise makes me feel very good, once I catch my breath. It eases the stress-induced muscle tension, at least in the places I've figured out how to stretch. I actually want to keep doing it, and to work my way up. I think this is a very good sign. And maybe tomorrow I'll earn my penguin.

*claps hands* Penguin stickers! I want penguins! I have a whole list of stretches I have to do now, and I don't get any penguins :-(

Curves would not kill you. In fact, it would make you feel better to see how much better shape you are then some of the women. There was a woman there last night getting her excercise by simply getting on and off each piece of equipment, not using them at all...

Check your local curves - ours is doing a food bank week in March where you can get the $170 joining fee waived for a donation to a food bank.

They're having some waived joining fee specials here in Tucson, too (I don't know what kind - I didn't stop to look, just sawa sign when I drove by.)

Send me what you're doing, I'll do whatever you do, and when you move (:P) we'll do the curves thing together....

*Applause* & *Encouragement*
Curves wouldn't be as bad as you think. I started exercising reguarly (4+ x a week) at the end of October. At first I wanted to die, 15 minutes on the elliptical trainer was murder. But, the truth of the matter is I was tired of feeling so old at 25. I couldn't even walk up the 1 flight of stairs to my office without getting winded. I have lost an average of 2 lbs every week since I started exercising and following weight watchers. AND for the record, I had tried weightwatchers at least 7 times before over the past 5 years. I really believe that it is the combo of diet and exercise that has made the difference this time.

I can't even believe the stamina *GRIN* that I have now. I feel like a totally different person. I went from being a person who HATED exercise to a person who feels like crap when she misses a few days. I have lost 50lbs since the summer...Truthfully, the best part has been that I have been able to increase my level of activity so dramatically. I was terrified to join a gym at first, but I actually found it to be a very encouraging environment. I joined NYSC, but I have heard really great things about CURVES too. It was hard at first so I just made a rule for myself...I don't go home until I have gone to the gym...Now it is just part of my routine. You should be proud of yourself just for getting the courage to start...that is the hardest part :-)
