Aug. 2nd, 2004

Last night as I was driving home, I saw a thunderstorm off to the left of the car. I was driving north, and it was traveling from west to east, so it was approaching me. Initially I didn't think much of it. However, I was listening to a radio dramatization of The Hobbit. There's something a bit spooky about listening to Smaug chuckling and wreaking havoc, and then watching flashes in the sky come closer...

I bought a set of pots and pans at Costco yesterday. [1] [2] I had been coveting this particular set for months, so it didn't take too long to decide. It was still quite long enough for blackfog, who was a bit taken aback by the bustle of Costco. He was out shopping with me and amy_pearlman because we'd been to lunch with E & R and the kids in the same plaza, and it would have been silly to take him home and then go back.

We also stopped at Best Buy, so I could take a look at the digital cameras and get Amy's opinion. I already had one in mind, which she approves of. So, I'll be going and picking that up sometime between my birthday and August 27 (when the coupons expire). I'm thinking perhaps sooner rather than later; if I go that first week, I can take it with me to PennRen. I also looked at the TVs, since TV and VCR are both on the list of things I don't have. I may pick those up at the same time, or I might go with my parents to get those when they're around at the end of next week, and see if I can convince them to pay. Or I may just wait, since they're decidedly non-essential.

That ended up being the active day of the weekend. demongrey canceled the kayaking trip that was supposed to be Saturday morning, due to rain. Although I'd really been looking forward to the kayaking, I can't honestly say I was that disappointed, since I got very little sleep again on Friday night. I spent the bulk of the day curled up on the sofa with either a book or my computer, listening to blackfog doing some research. We had wine with dinner, and there was some silliness while measuring demongrey to leftsphenoid's standards, but other than that there wasn't much to say. Then again, I suppose it seems sometimes like quiet days do only happen once in a blue moon.

So, as it turned out, I could have had my haircut Saturday morning after all. But it was a lot quieter on Friday night when I went in, and it was very relaxing to be taken care of after the hard work earlier in the day. [3] Of course, I hadn't had to move very much of the furniture, nor was I still around for the actual moving. But I'd done a fair amount of rearranging to make it easier for them to do the work, and cleaning to make it less revolting. It all looks so empty now, with all of daernhelm's stuff and that damn sofa gone. I've got to do some more cleaning and rearranging now. It'll be different, that's for sure.
______________________

[1] Of all the things that I need to replace since daernhelm left, those were the only ones that couldn't wait. But I still need to make a list so I don't forget anything.

[2] However, the box is both large and heavy. So I still have to figure out how to get them in from my car.

[3] Aaah, I'm turning into a girly girl! *twitch*

1) We should be happy we cancelled Kyacking becuase while we didnt get much weather, parts of the surrounding area very much did.

2) I'm not sure I measured *anything* to lefshenoid's standards -- especially since the boy would not quit moving.

*grin* she's measured lots of boys before, presumably including this one - I'm sure she accounts for wiggling.

Carry a few pots at a time from the car. No need to try and carry the entire box. Just open the box up and either make several trips or over the next few days, whenever you come in from the car, take as many as you can carry.

Hmm. Good idea.

The other thought I'd come up with was creating handles from duct tape.

When I lived alone and when I lived in an apartment complex, I used this method regularly for groceries. When I packed my groceries, I put the toilet paper, etc. into separate bag(s). Then, if I had to carry all those bags through the parking lot, around through the complex, and up the stairs, I could just worry about the ones that had perishables and leave the other items for later or for some other time. Of course, when you leave the tp in the car and then realize you need it, cursing will ensue ;-)

*grin* I do that with groceries all the time. It just didn't occur to me I could take the pans out of the box in the car. (Brain? What brain?)

Ahhh, but it's a box not a bag and you were thinking of it as a "big box too heavy to lift" and not a "box with individual items inside it."

Good luck :-)

Already taken care of, via method #3 (park as close as possible to my door, and then pretend for five minutes that my arms are 6 inches longer and it doesn't hurt). But thanks for the offer.

You're still welcome to stop by, however.
