There continue to be some rituals that simply do not make sense to me.

The wake is one of them. *shudder*

Tomorrow morning, the funeral, which at least I understand. All in all, though, I'd rather be working.

I understand the history of the tradition, at least. When the body used to be kept in the home until the burial, gathering close family and friends to bring food so that the immediate family wasn't alone in the house with a coffin the night before the burial was a kindness. It also gave you a whole house to gather in, so that only people who wanted to had to go see the coffin.

But the modern translation of gathering for hours in a small room in a strange place and standing around the coffin is just creepy.

See to me though
with all of my close family members, I DON'T want to remember them as they last were alive, because they were all weak and shriveled and not the people I truly wanted to remember them the way the looked more in the coffin, because they looked like the people I knew instead of the weak and helpless person I last saw them alive as... so I'm glad all my relatives had open caskets.
